Re-inhabiting the City: Three Years After Lockdown

Three years ago, Mexico went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, we thought it would only last a couple of weeks. We now know it lasted nearly three years.

This forced us to reconfigure our routines and habits in different settings — primarily at work and at home. Reconciling working from home with domestic chores was a major challenge. We had to take ownership of those spaces and intervene them to make them functional — to be able to work, rest, have fun, and spend time together.

All of these changes have shaped our relationship with architecture and the city. We now prefer places with patios and green spaces, near workplaces, with more square meters, flexible spaces, and varied amenities — if not within the development itself, then nearby. These trends, already on the rise, accelerated abruptly after the “COVID era.”

Inhabiting a home that responds to our needs, depending on the circumstances we live, allows individuals to develop fully. The city's dynamic is also different now: we prefer to move by bicycle, to have nearby options that combine remote and in-person work, to walk to recreational spaces, or read and stroll with friends and pets, and to reconnect with classic neighborhoods where heritage buildings now share blocks with modern offices. One example is Edificio Dondé, which offers residential apartments from 54 to 178 m², with one or two bedrooms and one or two bathrooms, a central patio, private terraces, an open business center, and broad views of Av. Bucareli and the Reloj Chino monument — plus outward-facing commercial spaces.

Edificio Dondé's location on Av. Bucareli, the avenue that separates the iconic Colonia Juárez from the historic Colonia Centro, makes it possible to enjoy the benefits of both neighborhoods — surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants, bars, museums, art galleries, shopping centers, and traditional markets. A place to truly re-inhabit the city.
